This Bruckner Fifth begins memorably: the destinctive sound of period strings yielding to majestic annunciations on the period brass, all finely containes within the ample embrace of the acoustic of the Arsenal at Metz. Were proceedings to end at bar 30, this would be a winner. Unfortunately, there are another 72 minutes to endure.
